Introduction

The Procure to Pay (PTP) process in SAP is an end-to-end business workflow that manages the complete purchasing cycle, from creating a purchase requisition to making the final payment to the vendor. It integrates SAP MM (Materials Management) and SAP FICO (Finance and Controlling) to ensure efficient procurement, accurate financial postings, and streamlined business operations.

In this blog, you'll learn the complete SAP PTP process step by step, including key transactions, accounting entries, and real-world examples to build a strong understanding of the procurement cycle in SAP.

1. Purchase Requisition (PR)

When any department needs materials or services, they create a purchase request.
It includes:

It is approved by the department head and finance team. After approval, the purchasing team creates a Purchase Order.

It contains:
Vendor name

Payment terms

Vendor supplies the goods and sends the invoice.

When goods are received, GR is posted in SAP.

4. Invoice Receipt (IR) – (T-code: MIRO)
